Adams Morgan Holiday

Initial concept

The group proposes a concept for the 2023 Holiday Installation for Adams Morgan Partnership Business Improvement District that uses contemporary ideas and materials to celebrate the holidays with joy, and an innovative design.

Traditional symbols such as the Christmas tree, snow flakes and reference to the song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” will be used as elements, easily recognizable by the public, to develop a path around the plaza, guiding the visitors between the existing trees, benches and the renovated kiosk. Each element will be fabricated with safe and durable materials such as aluminum and stainless steel and illuminated by LED lights that will use less energy than conventional lightings.

Fabrication

We plan to fabricate all elements in stainless steel or aluminum. This will make the cleaning much easier in case of vandalism and graffiti, but we can provide an additional anti-graffiti ceramic coating to the surface if necessary.

The lower part of the tree will be open and accessible to allow visitors to interact with the installation, take photos and share their experience on social media. All structures will be safely connected to the floor with anchor bolts that can be easily removed without damaging the surface.

The colurful installation will work well during both night and day.

Installation

All elements will be design to be easily assemble/disassemble and be able to fit a small storage area by fitting in each other internal space.

The contemporary tree element is made in sections that can fit the first module, reducing the storage space to ¼. The stainless steel tree is illuminated by internal and external LED lightings that interact with the movement of the visitors and they work well on both night and day.

The design and organization of the installation elements can be revised and improved based on the input of the Adams Morgan Partnership Business Improvement District.

The budget of $28,000 includes design services, engineering, $2,000,000 liability insurance, fabrication, installation and de-installation, preparation for storage.
